London - Bone Marrow Awareness Evening in Memory of Lloyd Gerard z"l

Forty-five people gathered at the home of Michelle and Mark Silverman in Stanmore, London, England on June 27 for an "Ezer Mizion Awareness Evening" in memory of the late Lloyd Gerard, of blessed memory.    The occasion marked the first anniversary of his death.

Dov Newmark, UK Director of the British Friends of Ezer Mizion, opened the evening with a review of Ezer Mizion's work.   Ofra Konikoff, Chief Transplant Coordinator of Ezer Mizion's Bone Marrow Donor Registry, spoke movingly about how the Registry saves the lives of people around the world afflicted with cancer by facilitating bone marrow transplants from healthy donors.

As a tribute to Lloyd, the 1200 hot meals prepared daily and distributed by Ezer Mizion to homebound patients and hospital visitors on the day of his yahrzeit were dedicated to his memory.  A framed copy of the sign that was posted announcing this fact was presented to his parents, Yvonne and Joel Gerard, and sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Mark Silverman.

The family and many of the guests made generous contributions to support  the Lloyd Gerard Bone Marrow Donor Pool, making possible testing of many new potential donors.  So far almost 1,000 potential donors have been tested via the Lloyd Gerard Donor Pool. Family and guests came away inspired from this tribute to their departed loved one, Lloyd Gerard, of blessed memory.
