"Generation to Generation" is an innovative program introduced in 2001 by Ezer Mizion's Geriatric Services Division. The program nurtures relationships and fosters understanding between young people and the elderly, while alleviating the isolation and loneliness experienced by elderly people.
"Generation to Generation" includes educational and hands-on components. The program's seven instruction sessions cover topics such as the physiology of aging, what young people can learn from elderly people, how to deal with dementia, and other issues related to the elderly. The sessions are coordinated by a social worker specializing in geriatrics and are given by nurses, social workers, and elderly people from the community.
The program's hands-on component brings students and elderly people together once a month, enabling them to get to know each other in an enjoyable setting. Ezer Mizion provides transportation, refreshments and entertainment at these events, which take place on Rosh Chodesh or before holidays. |
